Bach X Folk (Autumn 2024)

26 October 2024, 20:00, MOMKult – TICKETS>>>

Bach's Air has now become a "cliché" - everyone's ears are ringing with the beautiful melody over the pounding bass. It is really surprising, that we can even find this free singing over the pacing with its special embellishments, where we would expect something different – in Hungarian instrumental folk music. Surprising similarities, beautiful differences – it awaits those, who wants to listen Bach’s Suit in D major not only in its original form, but with the folk music reflection of István "Szalonna" Pál’s band. We welcome our interested visitors with folk dance house after the concert.

István “Szalonna” Pál and His Band

István “Szalonna” Pál and his band are working for the love and familiarization of Hungarian folk music throughout all the Hungarian-speaking regions. Besides the flutes and bagpipes of the traditional peasant world, stringed instruments, cymbals and tarogato, human singing plays the heart-wrenching slow melodies, the virtuoso “legényes” and the special world of “csárdás”.

Bach: Suit in D major MWV 1068

The second movement of Bach’s suit is the well-known melody, the Air, which, in the transcription of the violinist August Wilhelm, can be played on a single string of the violin. Thanks to this, the piece became so popular that, it has been known and performed in many places ever since, and has even appeared in popular music and film music too.

Bartók X Electric (Spring 2025)

5 April 2025, 16:00, MOMKult - TICKETS>>>

5 April 2025, 20:00, MOMKult - TICKETS>>>

Folk music and folk songs have found their way naturally into the popular culture. From English Patient to rap, which is the modern folk music itself – with less musical tone of course, than a folk song. This evening Deva and Danubia Orhcestra approach folk songs from two different styles, and the moderator will be Béla Bartók himself, whose folk song adaptations for piano and vocal will be on program by the arrangements of Máté Balogh.

Дeva

Dorina Takács Дeva was already a significant character of the Hungarian popular music at her young age. The mood of Hungarian folk songs is connected to her electro-atmospheric music, and the success of her songs is well-represented by the fact that international radio channels play them regularly. In 2022, she was chosen as the Female Artist of the Year at the Petőfi Music Awards.

Béla Bartók: 20 Hungarian folksongs

Béla Bartók before his 20 Hungarian folksong serie from 1929, had worked with folk melodies in his other compositions too, and in this serie he arranged those folk songs, which he chose from his 1924 monography. He composed an orchestral version too, but this wasn’t eventually presented due to political reasons.
