Dichterliebe
The Twelve Giant
Based on Schumann's song cycle Dichterliebe
Robert Schumann's song cycle Dichterliebe is the story of an imagined love: a love for which one person is enough. The overwrought songs, sometimes reminiscent, sometimes angry, sometimes resigned, are about inner events, not about the pain and happiness of a real, lived relationship. The confrontation between the outer and the inner world is highlighted in our concert-film-theatre performance by the interplay of different genres. The orchestral arrangement of the song cycle was created for the Orchestra by Erkel Prize-winning composer Máté Balogh, so the performance is also representative of contemporary music.
