Where Are You All, Mama?
Composer Péter Zombola\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s Journey from the Orphana
That art heals wounds may be a cliché. Yet meeting a living composer whose severe childhood traumas were resolved through the new musical world he himself created is a unique experience. At the heart of our concert is Péter Zombola, one of Hungary’s most successful and increasingly internationally acclaimed composers, whose distinctive works have been performed to great success in countless places, from the USA to the Far East.
Few people know, however, that behind Péter’s somber, archaic sonorities lie years spent in an orphanage, adoptive parents, and the trauma of a mother whose existence was kept from him and whom he later searched for in vain as an adult. Over the course of the evening, Zombola’s works will be heard interwoven with movements by his favorite master, Schubert. The music is accompanied by scenes from a film based on the composer’s personal life story, directed by Kornél Mundruczó, in which conversations between Zombola and his friend Máté Hámori, the creator of the concert, reveal the life behind the music.
